This is how an AED works:
Every day, 30 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside the hospital, only 7% survive. However, the chance of survival is 70% if the victim can be resuscitated within the first 3 to 4 minutes. An Automatic External Defibrillator, or AED for short, offers a solution here.
The device automatically analyses the heart rhythm of the victim and then (if necessary) delivers one or more electric shocks to the heart. The only action required from the user is to open the defibrillator and stick the electrodes on the victim's chest.
Throughout the entire resuscitation process, you will be guided by audible and visual instructions. A shock command is given only in case of heart failure. Therefore, it is not possible to shock a person who is not in cardiac arrest. Each AED also comes with a resuscitation kit, including scissors, disinfectant, gloves, etc.
