On your route
The Duinpanne visitor centre is the gateway to the various natural areas. Inside, you can admire the skeleton of Orka Reveil, the sea giant that washed ashore in De Panne in 2023, free of charge. Discover the secrets of the North Sea in the interactive exhibition and learn more about the aquarium’s residents. Stroll through the renewed dune garden or try one of the many treasure hunts. In the bar or on the sunny terrace, enjoy a tasty local beer, farm ice cream or a healthier lemonade. Kids can romp to their heart’s content on the playground. During holiday periods, there are plenty of child-friendly activities and workshops.
Calmeynbos is a wonderful dune woodland for walking, mountain biking or horse riding. It is a lovely place to cool off on a warm summer’s day. Look closely and you might spot a golden oriole or a green woodpecker high in the trees. Or perhaps a cute ‘dunekeuntje’ (dune rabbit) will disappear into its well-hidden burrow right at your feet.
The Belgian military cemetery of De Panne borders the civil cemetery, close to the Oosthoek nature reserve and Calmeynbos. It was laid out during the First World War among the dunes on land belonging to the Calmeyn family.
